Located just off Highway 1, the town (population a little over 2,000) boasts Harley Farms Goat Dairy (harleyfarms.com), a delightful goat farm with tours for families and a shop for buying goat’s milk, goat cheese, goat cheese ravioli and more. Begin your day here and after the tour, pick strawberries, blackberries or olallieberries at Phipps Country Store and Farm (phippscountry.com).
After loading up, visit the sliver that is historic downtown Pescadero and head to Arcangeli Grocery Co.
(normsmarket.com), a family-run gourmet grocery store and deli. Here, you’ll find homemade artichoke bread, jams, honeys, pie and everything you need for the perfect picnic.
Perhaps you’ll want to get a takeout order of the famous cream of artichoke soup from Duartes Tavern, a restaurant that has been in operation since 1894.
Finish your day at Pescadero State Beach, where you can picnic and fly kites. Bathrooms are of the outhouse kind, so bring your hand sanitizer! For inexpensive stays, sleep in a bunk bed at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel (norcalhostels.com) or overnight it in a tent bungalow at nearby Costanoa (costanoa.com). For a step up in luxury, check out the Beach House (beach-house.com), reminiscent of a Nantucket resort in Half Moon Bay.
