Bay Area Gifts for Mother’s Day

A Personal Chef
Give Mom the gift of home-cooked meals – without the cooking – with Pocket Chefs. The San Francisco firm, which launched earlier this year, allows you to hire a chef to come to your home and plan, prep and cook personalized meals – and even clean up. (You buy the groceries.) Chefs prepare up to three meals with three to four servings each in a two-hour session. $149 for a single trial; $399 for four sessions per month for three months.

Quick and Easy Meals
Or help your mom with inspiration for low-cost, healthy meals without a lot of steps or time needed with The Anti-Cookbook: Easy, Thrifty Recipes for Food-Smart Living. Longtime friends and moms Rebecca Bloom of Menlo Park and Shelley Onderdonk, a San Mateo native, hatched the idea for the book when preparing their children to move out and feed themselves. Their simple recipes and ideas are great for anyone – from time-crunched parents to older kids ready to help out in the kitchen. Claws Out Press, 2018. $17.99.

Good For You Skincare
Mom can have a spa day at home with natural skincare products from Benedetta. The Petaluma company makes its products in small batches using 100 percent botanical ingredients from sustainable farms. Its rose products, made with certified organic Bulgarian Rose, lock in hydration for radiant, youthful skin. Pictured: Rose Duo:  Hydrosol and Body Crème, with free limited edition soap. $100. Available at the San Francisco Ferry Building.

Guilt-Free Chocolate
Your mother won’t have to sneak a treat with chocolate from Oakland’s OCHO. The company uses only organic, fair-trade chocolate in its bars and minis. All of its candy is gluten-free, and some varieties are vegan, as well. A thick layer of crisp dark or milk chocolate is filled with soft centers in flavors including caramel, coconut, peppermint, peanut butter and PB&J. Pictured: Coconut Minis. $3.99-4.99. Available at Walgreens, Sprouts, select Targets and ochocandy.com.
