South Beach Yacht Club offers weekly sailing camps for children 8-17 years old, and from beginner to intermediate sailors. Our camp size is small, 20 campers maximum, with a ratio of 1 instructor to 6 campers to optimize your child’s ability to learn sailing and to maximize their safety.
Why put a small child into a little boat into the SF Bay?
When children learn to sail a boat, they learn geometry, physics, mechanics, and meteorology to move their boat in ever-changing wind and water conditions. No two days of sailing ever have repeating water patterns and weather conditions. Not only do children learn the STEM of sailing, but they also learn marine safety, right of way, sportsmanship, and conservation of the Bay. Working solo or working as a team, the sailors learn not to panic in various situations. The children realize how important it is to trust their judgment and hone the skill of taking responsibility for the decisions they make on their boat. They discover that sailing is not about brute strength, it’s a game of mental discipline. Our objective is to help kids learn to help themselves and thrive on the water and in life.
