In early November, the worst fire in California history destroyed almost 10,000 homes and affected more than 50,000 people. Organizations and individuals have stepped in to help, creating ways the entire family can support the relief effort.  Here are ways to help victims of the fire:

Butte County Schools Fire Relief Fund– The Butte County Office of Education has created this fund for individuals and organizations to donate money directly to affected schools. Donors can specify a school or use (such as textbooks or clothes) or make an open donation. Donations are being handled by the North Valley Community Foundation.
Camp Fire Relief Fund – Tax-deductible donations can be made through the North Valley Community Foundation, which is distributing funds to many community organizations serving evacuees and first-responders. Gift cards can also be donated. As of Nov. 18, the foundation had distributed more than $300,000 to various organizations including churches, schools, medical centers, animal organizations, shelters and more.
Gift of Hope – This program by the Father’s House Church of Oroville will provide holiday gifts to more than 1,000 needy children, including those impacted by the Camp Fire. Donors can make a monetary donation or buy and mail (or drop off) gifts for a specific child, based on her or his wish list. Gifts must be received by Dec. 7.
Paradise Adopt a Family This concept was created by Rocklin residents Eric and Heather Lofholm, who agreed to adopt a family. The idea is to pair families that lost their homes with sponsors that want to help.
Butte Humane Society Pet Food & Supply PantryThe Butte Humane Society has put together a wishlist of supplies it needs to help the animals that have been affected by the fire. The list is updated regularly. All items can be found on Amazon.
Red Cross Donate online or by text, phone or mail. 925-588-6678.
The Salvation Army This Christian-based charity is collecting money for Camp fire victims and has volunteer opportunities listed on its website.
Calaveras Community Foundation – Shortly after the Butte fire started, this foundation started a disaster relief fund to help victims. Donations can be mailed to: P.O. Box 1436, Angels Camp, 95222. Write “DRF” on checks or in the PayPal comment box. Donations can also be made on the website:calaverascommunityfoundation.org/news-events/calaveras-community-foundation-disaster-relief .
